Hull City U21s were defeated 6-0 by Peterborough United under the lights at the Dransfield Stadium.

Braces for Jacob Wakeling and trialist Remi Andrew, plus goals for Kai Corbett and Doney O’Brien Brady gave Posh their second win of the season.

Conor Sellars made 6 changes to his team from their last outing, a 3-0 defeat against Birmingham City. Thimothée Lo-Tutala started in goal, replacing the suspended Owen Foster. James Furlong started at left back, playing in Hull City colours for the first time since his Deadline Day arrival from Brighton. Matty Jacob and Andy Smith also started in the back 4. Kyle Fanning and Ajay Weston dropped to the bench.

The first half was dominated by Peterborough, but the Tigers came close early through Rocco Coyle. He struck a powerful free kick from 30 yards out, which was tipped over the bar by Trialist A between the posts.

For Peterborough, Corbett forced a save out of Lo-Tutala in the early stages; the French U20-international diverted the effort onto the crossbar before City scrambled to get the ball clear. Lo-Tutala was tested again after 19 minutes, as he rushed off his line to deny O’Brien Brady, who also came close 6 minutes later.

City’s best chance of the half came through Bora Aydınlık. He received the ball on the edge of the D from Matty Jacob. With defenders around him, Aydınlık turned and unleashed a shot which forced a diving save from Trialist A.

6 minutes later, Peterborough would take a deserved lead. Lo-Tutala was caught outside of his area awaiting a pass, which was intercepted by Wakeling. Posh’s number 11 rounded Lo-Tutala and calmly slotted it into an empty net. They would double their lead 2 minutes later through Kai Corbett from the penalty spot - after a handball against Jevon Mills.

This quick-fire double seemed to wake the Tigers up somewhat. In the 5 minutes before the half time whistle blew, Hull City had 2 great chances to get themselves back in the game. First, Tyrell Sellars-Fleming had an effort cleared off the line by James Donnelly. Then, with a minute to go before half time, Lo-Tutala launched the ball forward towards Joseph Johnson, who flicked the ball on to Bora Aydınlık with his head. The Fenerbahce loanee beat a few defenders, before his left-footed attempt was deflected just wide and behind for a corner.

Sellars’ side made 1 change at the break; Kyle Fanning replacing Matty Jacob at right back.

5 minutes into the second half, Peterborough made it 3-0. Jacob Wakeling beat Jevon Mills with some clever footwork and rifled a powerful effort past Lo-Tutala.

15 minutes later, Peterborough would made it 4-0 from the spot. Andy Smith brought down Corbett, and Remi Andrew converted from 12 yards.

O’Brien Brady made it 5-0 two minutes later. He raced away from Mills and slotted the ball underneath a sliding Andy Smith and between the legs of Lo-Tutala at the near post.

City’s only chance of the half came from a Rocco Coyle free kick, this one cannoning off the post from 25 yards out on 70 minutes. 7 minutes later, Peterborough made it 6-0 through Andrew. A corner was whipped in, and Andrew’s headed effort at squirmed past Lo-Tutala at his near post.

This defeat leaves Hull City 7th in the table, 9 points away from the play-off spot they occupied at the end of last season.
